The engine oil temperature sensor (EOT) is a thermistor device that provides an input to the engine computer system to provide protection against an engine overheat condition and for variable valve timing (VVT) operation. On modern vehicle application the sensor input is also used to calculate engine oil degradation and provide the vehicle operator when an oil change is necessary.
