I got a great deal on this box with coupon and speed perks. The box seems to function adequately. Definitely less than 3 turns lock to lock. Only complaint is after install, my steering wheel is no longer straight when the front wheels are straight. I am going to change my steering wheel soon anyway, so I am hoping I can reclock the wheel to get things in alignment again. This was not an installation error. 1988 S10, steering shaft will only go one way. Pitman arm had to fall where the splines would allow. No clue if box was rebuilt a little off or what. I would recommend, however I would also keep in mind it may not be 100% from where your old one was.

Good part. Fortunate that 1 store in region had it. I found the stock in Advance stores within my region are very poorly stocked.

I decided to buy a remanufactured box instead of rebuilding the one already in the car (an '84 Monte Carlo SS) to make it a quicker repair to replace the original steering box (which was beginning to leave small puddles on the garage floor). However, the time I saved by buying the reman'd box was negated by the fact that the input shaft was clocked 90 degrees off of where it should have been. Thus, the flat spot on the steering shaft and the 4 spots on the output shaft did not line up and I was forced to dismantle the steering column to reclock the locking ring so that my steering wheel would not be 90 degrees off. It's not that hard to mark the case and the shafts to ensure proper alignment upon reassembly, but who ever rebuilt it obviously didn't care. This is the last remanufactured steering box I plan on ever buying. No reason to pay more for the same headache. On the plus side, the box feels good on the road and doesn't leak. Also, it's actually the 12.7:1 quick-ratio box, not a generic 'whatever' ratio box that some parts stores will sell you because they don't know the difference.

My 79 J10 had a 4 bolt mounting system for the power steering gear. The 16507 box as delivered has only 3 bolts for mounting. I suggest checking the number of mount holes before ordering.

This is not a direct replacement for jeep yj that requires 4 mounting bolts. This only has 3 bolt holes. Lares says Jeep never made a box for wrangler with 4 bolt mounting. I disagree.

I bought this box to replace my worn 130k mile steering box and this lares gearbox has more play in it than my factory one did right out of the box. No way was this ever tested they just spray painted it halfway and put it in a box. Don't buy!

Works great, easy to put in. Loud till all the air is out of it and that took a short ride. I searched for a long time before buying the Laris one and I'm glad I did.

Newly installed steering box allows nearly 5" of free steering wheel play. Since these boxes do not adjust externally I have a boat anchor.
