The Air Charge Temperature Sensor provides an input to the vehicles computer as to the temperature of the air entering the engine via the air cleaner assembly. The engine computer uses this input to control many operating conditions which in turn provides optimal engine operation, engine performance and clean tailpipe emissions.

The temperature sensor is fed 5 volts by the systems computer, within the sensor housing will be a thermistor, or dropping resistor whose resistance value will change as the temperature surrounding it changes. Changing resistance in the circuit will change the volt signal at the processor indicating the current operating value.
