The starting system consists of the rotating electrical motor and solenoid which may be mounted on the starter motor or mounted remotely. The electric motor drives a gear which engages with the engine’s flywheel located at the rear of the motor, when the motor is energized, the motor will turn the engines crankshaft. Relays are electrical switches used to convert a small electrical load into a circuit capable of handling a high amperage load. Computers and small switches are not designed to carry the higher amperage requirement of a circuit that may have an electric motor, solenoid, or high amperage lighting fixture.
