Marine environments place rigorous demands on every component of the ignition system. The combination of water spray, salt exposure, full throttle acceleration and harsh vibrations all take their toll. The MSD Pro-Billet distributor is the strongest and most accurate distributor you can put in your boat. The housing is CNC-machined from a billet of 6061-T6 aluminum creating a housing with no porosity. Each distributor uses MSD’s race-proven magnetic pickup to trigger the ignition control. Mounted just above the pickup is a mechanical advance assembly that is easy to adjust so you can dial-in an ignition curve to match your boat’s application (except PN 8366). For marine use, the distributor cap is bolted to the aluminum base. There are two flame arrestor holes with brass screens machined into the base of the distributor to prevent ignition of gas fumes that may build up in the engine compartment. A special Weathertight connector is supplied. Underwriter’s laboratory approved.

For a long time, racers have known that one of the best things to do to an engine to improve its performance is to stabilize the ignition timing. The MSD flying magnet crank trigger system does exactly that by using magnets embedded in an aluminum wheel. The MSD flying magnet crank trigger uses four magnets secured in the aluminum trigger wheel that pass by a stationary non-magnetic pick-up to trigger the ignition. This flying magnet design produces accurate trigger signals and the non-magnetic pick-up cannot be false triggered. Each flying magnet crank trigger includes a two-piece mounting bracket for the non-magnetic pick-up that in most cases will work on either the passenger side or driver’s side of the engine (the SB Chrysler and SB Ford brackets mount on only one side). The adjustable bracket provides a wide range of timing adjustment and spacers are included. These systems will trigger MSD 6, 7, 8 and 10 series ignitions and all MSD timing accessories.

This strong, billet aluminum distributor is set up for engines that run locked-out timing or an MSD timing computer. With no advance assembly, the rotor plate is welded directly to the oversized shaft. A sealed ball bearing guides the top of the shaft while an extra long sintered bushing stabilizes the lower portion. Trigger signals are produced via a high-output magnetic pick-up. This pickup is extremely accurate and never requires adjustment. The MSD 8.5mm super conductor wire is the performance wire. Engineered from the inside out, the 8.5 offers everything you have ever wanted in a wire; incredibly low resistance without electronic interference. In a single 12 inch length of super conductor wire there is only 40 – 50 ohms of resistance. That is the lowest resistance of any helically wound wire. To accomplish this, we use a copper alloy conductor due to it’s great voltage carrying capabilities. The low resistance results in less loss in spark energy so more reaches the spark plug. The conductor is wound extremely tight around a special center core. So tight in fact, that there is over 40 feet of conductor wrapped into a single foot of plug wire.
