Power Train

For a long time, racers have known that one of the best things to do to an engine to improve its performance is to stabilize the ignition timing. The MSD flying magnet crank trigger system does exactly that by using magnets embedded in an aluminum wheel. The MSD flying magnet crank trigger uses four magnets secured in the aluminum trigger wheel that pass by a stationary non-magnetic pick-up to trigger the ignition. This flying magnet design produces accurate trigger signals and the non-magnetic pick-up cannot be false triggered. Each flying magnet crank trigger includes a two-piece mounting bracket for the non-magnetic pick-up that in most cases will work on either the passenger side or driver’s side of the engine (the SB Chrysler and SB Ford brackets mount on only one side). The adjustable bracket provides a wide range of timing adjustment and spacers are included. These systems will trigger MSD 6, 7, 8 and 10 series ignitions and all MSD timing accessories.

When a high pressure fuel pump is run with a steel roller cam core, the stock fuel pump pushrod is not compatible with the steel core. You can damage an expensive roller cam as a result of wear at the fuel pump lobe. COMP Cams offers several fuel pump pushrods for various applications.

Mr. Gasket Solid Steel Motor Mounts are recommended only for competition applications. This .180 inch thick, zinc dichromate plated solid mounts do not have the flexing present in rubber or even polyurethane engine mounts. This prevents lateral engine movement or twisting in high horsepower and torque applications. Nor will steel mounts break as easily as stock rubber mounts can. Engine movement in applications like this can cause contact of engine components into places they do not need to be (like headers hitting the frame of the car). Also engine twisting can cause severe drivetrain misalignment affecting shifting or even power transmission to the ground. However, without the insulative effect of rubber, vibration will be substantial and thus solid mounts are not recommended for the street.

With Mr. Gasket cam degree bushings you fine tune the camshaft timing of your engine to as little as 1 degree. Even aftermarket timing sets with multiple keyways can’t give the range of adjustment these bushings allow. Retard your camshaft to lower the powerband for more low end torque and midrange horsepower, or advance for more top end power. This kit does even number adjustment 0-8 degrees.

Mallory’s UNILITE (R), and magnetic breaker less ignition modules are self contained module assemblies which have no moving parts to wear out. Using Mallory’s time tested breaker less ignition circuit, combined with modern surface mount thermal-clad construction, these ignition modules can drive both OEM and high performance ignition coils. For best results always use a Mallory PROMASTER coil or a Mallory chrome electronic ignition coil. These are also an excellent choice for triggering one of the Mallory HyFire series of electronic ignition controls. Hookup is as easy as a three wire connection.

Roller cam lobes are ground flat rather than tapered like a flat tappet cam; it is necessary to provide some means of holding the cam back to the rear of the engine. The thrust button rides between the front of the timing gear and the back of the front cover and can be shimmed for proper end play of the cam. COMP Cams has both the solid nylon button and the roller thrust bearing available for the ultimate in performance.

Knowing your coolant temperature can help to prevent burn injuries. Thermocap Cap, with its built-in calibrated thermometer, indicates the coolant temperature. This is useful information prior to cap removal. Never attempt to remove Thermocap Cap when the coolant temperature is very hot. The escaping hot coolant and steam may burn you. Reclamation valve works great with your coolant recovery system. Your radiator can reclaim coolant from your overflow bottle. Wide 30 degree to 270 degree F temperature range.
