I recently picked up a 1966 Plymouth Satellite 2Dr 440 4SP. The previous owner didn't know much about the engine build but it does have headers, an Edelbruck Performer Intake and at bare minimum, a mild but thumpy cam. It had a Edelbrock 600 CFM 1407 (Older but still good carbs) on it. It needed a rebuild for sure but 600CFM. I have run mopars most of my life. I had a 383 with a 750CFM Double Pumper on it but that engine was built to race and big block mopars love big carburetors. First thing I have to decide for my 440 is how much CFM did I need without knowing the engine build was. Using the same old formula, Cubic Inches X RPM divided by 3456 is the common formula for an almost stock engine. Chryslers redline for 440 big blocks was around 5,000 but 5400-5500 wont hurt her. Stock HP for these engines was 375HP. I am guess mines putting out around 425HP. I also used the 5000 Redline in the formula which came out to be 636 CFM so a 650CFM carb was my first simple choice until this engine gets a rebuild. Most muscle car drivers know an Edelbrock is really a set it and forget it carb and is highly recommended for the street and occasional drag race. Now, I needed to fix my carb because it looked old and didn't tune easy. It would occasional stall plus it had a mechanical choke which are a pain for a daily driver. I went for the newer AVS2 Edelbrock since they have some minor advancements plus an electric choke. I bought this off the shelf along with some new rubber fuel lines, a new fuel filter before the mechanical fuel pump and a secondary filter (clear type from Classic Industries online) that goes between the fuel pump and the carburetor. This is required by Edelbrock for warrantees. Take pictures of the old carb first as it makes the install easier. After I replaced the carb, hooked up the electric choke and ground (you have to use the old throttle cable mount or buy a new one), it started right up. The only adjustment I had to make was bump up the idle!!!!

My goal when installing this carb was to keep all underhood height dimensions the same as stock, while using all the attaching parts such as air filter/ housing - exhaust man. heat tube - inlet air hose etc. along with mounting the carb to an aluminum stock chevy SB Q/Jet manifold. Most anyone that works with SB Chevy's, will know that square bore carbs and stock QJet manifolds are incompatible, due to the throttle bore spacings. In spite of the fact that E/Brock sells spacers / Adapters etc. to overcome these problems, they didn't meet with my objectives. By making my own modifications to the intake manifold - carb fuel inlet and stock air cleaner, I was able to complete a nice clean/stock installation that performs flawlessly! - right out of the box!

The carburator I purchased was defective as purchased. I wasted half a day trying to troubleshoot what should have been an easy replacement. After a great deal of fussing, I went on Edelbrock's web site and diagnosed a leaking float. I had to use one of the floats out of my old carb to replaceone in this refurbished carb. I was very dissapointed with this purchase, and now my old carb is not useable since there's a bad float.

Although I was a bit apprehensive going into this one, I was very pleasantly surprised with the ease of installation and quality of the re-build on this part. Had old part off, new part on, and driving in 20 minutes. Excellent part at a great price. Overall a terrific value for a rebuilt carb for everyday driving and light hauling/towing.

works good when you have all the parts for it after putting the extra parts on i had to modify them so the tranny kickdown and throttle lever did not interfere with each other. also i no longer have over drive need to find out why and the back to barrels on the carb do not open all the way again need to figure out why. the response is still impressive and my car is drivable so it did serve its purpose for now. i would reccommend this to someone else as the carburetor itself did not need any adjustments to the fuel and air mixtures my car is now running better than before.

Ordered this carb because the ad states it is a Q-jet carb same number even has the pic of a Q-jet but it is not. It is a AVS2 carb from edelbrock. Totally different design with fuel inlet on rear not front of carb. Wasted four days waiting on it, now back to square one. FALSE AD....

Must have been remanufactured on a bad day, nothing was even close to being adjusted correctly, secondary's will not operate and fuel inlet leaked gas with a steady fast drip due to seat damage from over tightening during assembly. Decided to not even try another, figured if this one passed testing at facility there was no point trying another.
