Someone openned my fuel tank door and took off the cap, still a full tank (probably got scared before taking any).....the sales person came out with me and I tried 2 that fit (10511 and 10523) and the 10511 stuck out a little much keeping the tank door from closing but the 10523 did not stick out keeping the door from closing

I previously had a Stant aftermarket locking gas cap on my vehicle. Well, it finally failed and would not lock or even tighten down, so a new gas cap was needed. The Carquest cap tightened smoothly and clicked (locked) like an OEM cap. The key also works smoother than my Stant ever did, even when it was new. Although the Stant product lasted me more than 10 years, it was always finicky when using the key to open/unlock it. That is no longer the case with this Carquest piece. I just hope it gives me as many years of use as my previous cap.

The only reason that I bought this "exact fit for 1980 Camaro" gas cap: it says it's tethered. All I can say for sure is that the 10504 that I got is not tethered and has no provision for a tether. I have heard of gas caps that lock automatically, so you only have to unlock them. This cap must be manually locked and unlocked. That could be good or bad depending on your goals.

I bought this locking fuel cap (part #10507) online since it showed to have a groove for the retaining tether. The actual item in the box does not have the groove. Checked the inventory at two stores and none had the groove. Advance needs to update their product image with an accurate representation of the product. I haven't had it long, but it seems to work fine otherwise.

This cap is hard to take off AND put back on. You have to have the key in it to put it back on & if your key is on a keyring with other keys then get ready to scratch your car. It also only lasted me 1 year before it went bad and threw a CEL on my RAM truck. I bought a Stant brand locking gas cap and it's so much better.

Circumference of cap was the correct size but the locking tabs were totally different, would lock cap in place. Will have to return
