The housing is CNC-machined from a billet of 6061-T6 aluminum creating a housing with no porosity. Each distributor uses MSD’s race-proven magnetic pickup to trigger the ignition control. Mounted just above the pickup is a mechanical advance assembly that is easy to adjust so you can dial-in an ignition curve to match your boat’s application (except PN 8366). For marine use, the distributor cap is bolted to the aluminum base. There are two flame arrestor holes with brass screens machined into the base of the distributor to prevent ignition of gas fumes that may build up in the engine compartment. A special Weathertight connector is supplied. Underwriter’s laboratory approved.

One of the best, and sometimes missed tuning tricks is not to just optimize your initial timing, but to bring in timing advance more quickly than the stock distributor can allow. Bringing timing more quickly than stock can provide substantial increases in both torque and horsepower depending on your combination.This is done by changing the springs under the cap. This kit includes three sets of springs which can be used in different combinations to provide full advance sooner than stock. Use lighter springs to bring the advance more quickly, and heavier springs to bring it in more slowly. Two new weights with nylon bushings are also included as are instructions to help with installation.
