The pulsations can clog the filter with debris or cause the junction between the mesh screen and its plastic housing to fail and push the separated filter components into the engine lubrication system. Either condition starves the engine for oil, reduces engine power and can cause stalling, irregular idle, and a check engine light. The dealer only offers a replacement cover with the same failure-prone integrated oil filter or recommends removing the screen in the failed cover entirely. This Dorman OE FIX camshaft bridge cover features an upgraded one-piece stainless steel housing with a mesh screen laser-welded into place instead of the factory design’s plastic housing that holds the screen in place with a brass ring that can loosen and fall off.
