On certain Audi and Volkswagen vehicles equipped 2.0 liter engines, the mesh screen oil filter in the original equipment camshaft bridge cover tends to fail from the pressure of pulsations generated by the oil circuit. The pulsations can clog the filter with debris or cause the junction between the mesh screen and its plastic housing to fail and push the separated filter components into the engine lubrication system. Either condition starves the engine for oil, reduces engine power and can cause stalling, irregular idle, and a check engine light.
