Looked online and found a video of someone changing their Honda Accord's front brake pads and rotors. This was helpful before I bought pads and rotors in that I also knew to get brake grease and brake fluid cleaner.
Had no problem removing the old pads. Found that there was 1 stainless shim on each pad and that the pad on the piston side had a steel shim under the stainless shim. With over a 117,000 miles, the steel shims were very rusty.
The pads came with 4 new stainless steel clips that were very easy to install.
Used the video as a reference to grease up the caliper and new pads.
It easily went back together and is working fine.

Installed at all 4 corners of an 03 Accord EX 4cyl with new Brembo rotors (properly cleaned). No shims required for the front due to the patented coating and they get installed dry...a novel thing. So install was super easy as with all pads.

Were great for dust and stopping power for about 25,000 miles. Then they started grinding horribly. ABS would even kick on occasionally for no reason. If I blasted the calipers with a power washer it would be fixed for a 2-5 days of driving, then come back moaning and groaning/grinding. Not sure where the dust was getting but it was awful sounding. Went back to Akebono OEM pads on the same set of Brembo's for 20,000 miles now and still like OEM with no issues.

A friend had the same issue on a CR-V after approximately 35,000 miles. He even removed them, scuffed the rotors and replaced the pads but it still came back.

Comments about Wagner Disc Brake Pad:

Well priced after the manufacturer promotion. Hope to get more life out of them than the OEM offering. They definitely are quiet and perform well. There's a slight squeal when cold, likely attributed to no grease on the shim/metal fitting. A very high quality brake pad, and the reviews seems good by all accounts. I've recommended these pads to others in the community as well. I'm curious how these compare, generally speaking, to other "ceramic" brake-pad offerings in the marketplace.

Comments about Wagner Disc Brake Pad:

These are quality pads at a reasonable price. They come with new mounting clips and a lifetime warranty. You have to use the shims off your old pads, but that's about it. These pads are quiet and provide excellent stopping ability. I had forgotten what it is like to buy quality auto parts. You won't be disappointed with these brake pads

                  A:

Happy to help, Tracy! Note how each brake pad is attached. They typically snap or clip in with attached metal clips. Remove both pads. They may take a little force to pop out, so take care not to damage the caliper or brake line while getting them out. At this point, you can spread anti-seize lubricant on the metal contact edges and on the back of the pads. This will prevent a lot of squeaking. However, do not get any lubricant onto the inside of the brake pads. If any lubricant touches that material, the brake will not provide friction, and will be useless. Attach the new pads exactly the way the old ones were attached.

I have just purchased front and rear Thermo Quiet pads for my 2009 Pontiac Vibe AWD. I noticed that only the rear pads QC1212 included
replacement spring clips. The front pads QC1211 did not. I had called the store to inquire about this. They said the front did not use them. Before I take my only brakes to confirm this, I would like to get confirmation from the manufacturer.

                • A:

Replace the shims with the new ones provided in the box. The manufacturer states NOT to use Lubricants on the backs of the pads...but place a very small amount of lubricant in the area of the shims so they do not become stuck. Most Importantly, DO NOT USE LUBRICANT..The back of the pads are constructed with a patent lubricant on the back of the pads.

Do these pads still use the shims that are on the original equipment pads. Do you use the brake lubricant on these and the shims?
