Does what it advertises
Before buying Restore & Protect, ask yourself a couple of questions. 1) how long do you want to keep your vehicle? 2) does your engine use low friction rings? 3) is your engine direct injection?
If you're leasing your vehicle or don't think you'll keep it for a long period of time (over ten years and/or 200k miles), you might be happier using a less expensive oil with the same certifications. GF-6 is GF-6.
Do you have low friction rings AND want to keep your vehicle for a long time?
Do you have dorect injection AND want to keep your vehicle for a long time? Even with a dual injection system like Toyota's D4S, DI engines produce a lot more soot than older port injection systems.
Fuel being squirted on rhe back of your intake valves will help minimize carbon fouling on the intake, but it won't do anything for your oil control rings.
Frequent oil changes will help.
Using Top Tier fuels (not cheap LAC) will help.
Neither will entirely prevent oil control rings from eventually getting fouled and stuck.
I've been using this oil in a Kia (notorious sludge factories) and two Subarus since new. I change the oil every 3k miles on both (turbos. Keep your opinions to yourself in terms of OCIs: I don't care).
Both have over 60k miles on them and neither burn a drop of oil between changes. Neither shows any appreciable fuel dilution from Blackstone analysis done on them every 10k miles.
Boroscope into the cylinder head shows zero varnish on either.
Compared to my previous Kia (cheap as can be for a courier vehicle: I care about tax incentives, not resale value) maintained the same way with other oils showed oil consumption starting at 35k miles, eventually growing to a quart every 2500 miles by the time I unloaded it at 160k.
I'm convinced this oil is a gamechanger for modern engines designed around regulations rather than longevity when used from day one.
If you already have oil consumption, it may help… but probably only if you're just starting to notice it. Once it gets bad, chances are your bores are scored from stuck rings and nothing will help you except a rebuild/shortblock.
Think of this oil as a catch can for your engine's rotating assembly.

Works are designed ans advertised….. for a complete review and overview at Valvoline lab go to you tube amd search Oil Geek Valvoline Restore and Protect. Has the technical data as well. It works so well do another chanfe at around 1500 miles if a dirty or old engine with unknown oil change history.

I highly Recommend
If you drive a lot of miles or have a car above 75K miles then I highly recommend this oil. If you do your research on this oil then you will know why I recommend. So there was a challenge of using this oil for 4 straight oil changes and I accepted. What a difference it made in my engine performance. I have a 2010 Acura TL 3.7 and what a difference. I'm currently at 353,000 and the engine drives as if I was still at 100,000. The first 4 oil changes I changed at 3,000 miles as advised because it does a ton of cleaning and you don't want the oil filter going into bypass. The only issue I had is if you have oil leaks prior then you want to address them first. It will clean slug and grime so those oil leaks may leak more since the grim isn't filling it in. I had to replace one seal I had neglected and add AT-205 for the rear main seal. After you do the first 4 oil changes at 3,000 miles then at 3,500 miles. I've tried all the top brands out there but none made as much a positive difference as Valvoline Restore and Protect.
