where is the location of the expansion valves on a 2002 dodge caravan with front and rear a/c
Asked on 8/1/2012 by joe elohssa from bradenton , florida

The expansion valves on your 2002 Dodge Caravan should be located on the firewall next to the alternator. The rear valve is attached to the rear heater/AC unit if so equipped. To replace the front one disconnect the battery, then just remove the 3 bolts on the mounting bracket, loosen the bolt holding the alternator and move it out of the way. Unbolt the high side hose bolt and hose, remove the lowside hose, remove the 2 little torx bolts and pull off the expansion valve, and reverse to install with new o-rings coated in pag oil. To replace the rear valve remove the D Pillar trim panel from the passengers side rear by pulling it off and removing the seatbelt bolt. Next pull the carpeted panel covering the speaker off ( Just pull ) . Remove all the Phillips screws you see and remove the panel covering the rear Heat/AC unit. Unbolt the rear Heat/AC unit, unbolt the the AC hoses that come into the van from under the rear (4 bolts in all) , unplug the electrical connectors and lift from the rear on the unit and pull it out far enough to get at the expansion valve. Unwrap the valve from the black gooey tape, unbolt it and pull it off. Re-install new o-rings, and reverse.
