I bought 2 of these bulbs last year when my daughter was complaining about the brightness of her headlights and they helped a lot. They are brighter but do burn out faster. If you don't need the brightness buy the cheap ones because they last more than twice as long and cost less than half as much.

Take a read at [@] to find out why any bulb with a film over them is bad. They filter out the light, and the blue hue appears to be brighter, but in reality it isn't. In order to compensate for this filter they have to push more out of the light, therefore shortening its life. I bought a set of these bulbs back in October, and they just died on me in early May. I would not recommend them at all, you're simply paying for marketing and brainwashed employees!

Dielectric grease reqiured

Comments about Sylvania H1 SilverStar Halogen, Pack of 2:

The key to these bulbs lasting is using dieletric grease. These bulbs burn bighter and hotter than normal bulbs causing failure if they are not lubed. Had the same problem with several different sizes of the silverstar lights until a mechanic told me the solution. After that I've had theae bulbs last years.

Comments about Sylvania H1 SilverStar Halogen, Pack of 2:

I purchased the set of Sylvania H1 two-pack roughly one and a half months ago (late October), before daylight savings time began and the nights got longer. The clerk at advanced auto talked me into upgrading to these bulbs from the OEM -- the OEM being notably dimmer. He was right. There was a big difference between the OEM's and the H1s. However, it is now the first week of December and the driver-side bulb blew.
I am very careful during installation. I know, if you touch the surface of these bulbs, the grease from your fingers can cause the bulbs to burst, as the grease cooks on the bulb, causing it to deform and fail. I am also equally careful to slide the bulbs into the light housings without letting the bulb touch anything (just in case). While, like others who posted, I knew the bulbs would burn brighter (and as a result, last less time), I figured I'd get a year out of them – at least more than slightly under two months. Now, I have to buy two new bulbs, as I can't have one bright and one dimmer. Moreover, who knows how soon the passenger-side bulb will last. Thanks, Sylvania! I love throwing money in the trash and bulbs in a landfill. I won't be purchasing these again or recommending them to anyone. I might also look to another company for bulbs altogether.

    Only lasted 2 months!!!

Comments about Sylvania H1 SilverStar Halogen, Pack of 2:

I ignored the people who said these things burn out quickly, big mistake. I wanted the original high intensity look for my 2006 Acura RSX, so gambled paying $40 for 2 bulbs. One burned out after 1 month, the other didn't last much longer. A complete waste of money. I lost my reciept, and Advance couldn't even look up my purchases when i showed them the credit card i used to pay for the bulbs. I will never buy these again, dont care how good they look!!!

Comments about Sylvania H1 SilverStar Halogen, Pack of 2:

I bought 2 bulbs. They were great. Really illuminated the road. Made a 100% improvement in vision versus not having them at all. Not only does it work on the road but it also lights up those signs and other objects on the highway. I recommend that you use these when it is dark outside. You could try using them during the daytime however you may notice diminish value affected by the sunlight. When installing the bulb, please make sure that you remove the old bulb as well, as you may find difficulty in trying to install the bulb when the old one is still present.

      Extremely short lifespan

      By

      from Silver Spring, MD

Comments about Sylvania H1 SilverStar Halogen, Pack of 2:

I had both headlights replaced by a mechanic using these Silverstar bulbs. One died in 45 days and the other died in 4.5 months (and I only drive about 6k miles per year). I do like the brightness of these bulbs, and I knew that the increased brightness would mean a shorter lifespan than the OEM bulbs, but come on, at least last a year or something. And not only is it annoying to have to keep buying bulbs, but to keep having to waste my time to get these replaced is really enough reason to not buy these again. I complained to the manufacturer after the first bulb died and they sent me a replacement pack, which are now being used since both of the originals died already. But once these new ones die, I will be going back to the OEM bulbs.

      • Q:

I bought this product on October 4, 2009 to replace my headlights which had burnt out. In April 2010 (6 months) one of my headlights has already burnt out. I would think that a bulb this good and expensive that it would last longer. What can I do to have this bulb replaced either by the store or by some sort of warranty?
        Thanks

You can't do anything really, other than writing or calling the company and complaining. That "might" get you somewhere. Otherwise they are only covered under a 3 month warranty.
