FG141A Excessive Gauge Needle Movement

from Des Plaines, IL

About Me Mechanic

  • Good Fit
  • Well built

  • Excessive Gauge Movement
  • Fuel Pipe To Short

Best Uses

  • Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Comments about Spectra Premium Sender; Includes Fuel Sender, Float and Strainer (Fuel Pump Not Included):

#1) The fuel pipe is too short and sucks air at 1/4 tank of gas which was about 5 gallons left in the tank. I know this because my aftermarket electric fuel pump started chattering loudly on my way to the gas station. The tank took 15 gallons and it is a 20.3 gallon tank.
#2) The FG141A sending unit produces "excessive fuel gauge movements" while accelerating and stopping, and is the most excessive when the tank is 1/2 full; When I come to a stop, the needle dives down to 1/4 tank and then slowly recovers back to 1/2 tank reading. When I accelerate, the needle moves up to 3/4 tank and settles back down to 1/2 tank reading when driving at a steady pace. The OEM sending unit 53006586 never did this, in fact it was the recommended sending unit to correct "excessive fuel gauge movements" in the Jeep/Chrysler service bulletin # 14-54-89 (C14-06-9) P-3755, issued October 16, 1989 for the 1986-1989 SJ Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
