Comments about Rancho RS5000 Shock Absorber:

Previous shocks that I had bought gave my Jeep a washboard ride. These took care of that. Advance also gave me credit for the other shocks I had bought without any problems.

Comments about Rancho RS5000 Shock Absorber:

I ordered the rear Rancho 5000 as a replacement for the OEM shocks on '03 Jeep Gr Cherokee w/Class 4 hitch because the front Ranchos were absolutely awesome in smoothing out the road. Extremely easy to replace rears on my Jeep with just a 15mm 6-point socket --- no need for a jack. The rear Ranchos are a bit of a disappointment compared to the fronts. Construction of mounts is cheap, with rolled bosses and spacers, vs OEM solid tube bosses and solid tube spacers that were also a larger dia. Black rubber, not red urethane isolators. Rolled spacers were so thin that full bolt torque took guts on the bottom. I would have switched spacers except the OEM spacer was too large. I stopped short of 80 ft-lb spec torque on the top mount for fear of buckling the spacer and binding the boss. OEM also had a fixed seal cover sleeve mounted to the rod that's a better design than the Rancho red bellows, but of course it's not as cute. I almost gave these Ranchos a 3 for construction, but a 4 because of my expectations for the ride that will eventually justify the expense of Rancho rears.

Terrible shock in cold weather on Grand Cherokee

    By

    from Detroit MI

Comments about Rancho RS5000 Shock Absorber:

Replaced my shocks on my 2004 Grand Cherokee last year and noticed when it gets cold below freezing the shocks don't absorb anything, they are hard as a rock. I had to remove them after 1.5 years in fear they would tear up my jeep. Original OEMs with 175000 miles provided better ride. I'm going see what the warranty is on these things as I paid good money but they are not made for cold climates.
