The PureOne is a "premium" USA-built OEM replacement oil filter. It's best purchased as an upgrade to the Valvoline/ Purolator oil change special (every 3-6 months). This filter maintains conventional oil for the entire 3,000 mile drain duration and probably up to 5,000. The rough coating makes installation and handling much easier. Removal is best performed with your preferred, fitted oil filter wrench OR the Craftsman 47064 spider wrench and a rubber band. I discovered the Craftsman this weekend while replacing an oil pan gasket and changing oil. Get it. It's like the Schley valve adjusting tool I recently discovered--I don't know why I didn't buy it sooner. Anyways, upgrade to the PureOne series and your car will thank you.

My experience with oil filters:
1. MobilOne (expensive unless using synthetic)
2. PureOne, Bosch
3. Purolator, Honda
4. Fram (junk-upgrade to something better)
5. Driveworks (junk-upgrade to something better)

If you are going to purchase this for a Honda Prelude SH then I suggest to reconsider your options. Take the stock filter that came with the car and compare it with the Purolator ONE in store before you buy this. The Purolator is easily twice the size of the stock filter on the Prelude SH making it difficult to mount. This filter is listed for both the BASE and SH models. While it works fine on the BASE model, it will NOT work on the SH because on the SH the oil filter mount is located up higher on the block just under the intake manifold. On the BASE model the filter is located lower on the block where there is more room. There is literally no room on the SH with where the oil filter mounts up and clearly the design was not well thought out. The filter is so large there is not enough room to get a wrench on it or even your hands so it is impossible to tighten completely.

Comments about Purolator PureONE Oil Filter:

I use these filters on all 3 of my vehicles, Purolator has stopped putting the good grip on the outer part they are blue now and I still use them ,but not as good with the hand grip outer shell on them. I use synthetic oil and change every 6,000 miles and they have always worked well.

  • Q:

does the oil need to be changed during the 10,000 mile life of the filter?
Asked on 5/25/2017 by Terry from GA

    5 answers

    • A:

The short answer is no. The only people recommending 3000 mile change intervals are the ones selling oil changes. Todays base stocks can easily go 7500-10000 miles. Also, the tolerances of the engines, good fuel injection and ignition systems, the engine oil is no longer being flooded with raw fuel and byproducts of combustion. I've had a 10000 mile change interval for the past 30 years using synthetic motor oils and have had no oil related failures. Modern technology has really improved this.

In my profession you should always change your oil filter everyone you get your oil change. Every three months or 3000 miles

Answered on 5/28/2017 by andrew_lanierjr from undisclosed
    • A:

Change your oil and filter at the intervals required by your vehicle manufacturer. A $5 filter is not worth excessive wear on a $5000 engine.

      A:

Good question, Terry! Most automakers recommend oil changes every 7,500 or 10,000 miles when on a normal service schedule. I'd recommend you to contact your vehicle dealer for the correct oil change.
