Comments about Optronics Universal Trailer Light Kit:

You get a lot for a reasonable price with this kit. Although lights and license plate holder are plastic, it's still worth the money. comes with 4 way wire, plate holder, connectors, male and female plugs, lights.

Comments about Optronics Universal Trailer Light Kit:

Unit worked fine once installed however, a little more instruction would be helpful. Fine if you know a lot about them and know what parts to ignore and what to use and why. Took some guessing and outdated do without that.

Comments about Optronics Universal Trailer Light Kit:

Installing these lights were fast and easy. However they are no where near legal. They are not bright enough I had to cover them on a sunny day to see the light. I would not recommend. They are going to be returned.

Can I somehow add a light for the license plate? If so, how would I do that?

      • A:

You can splice a (+) positive and negative (-) into the (+) & (-)wires on your trailer brake lights and with the other ends attach it to a license plate bulb socket which you can buy at advance auto (example: part #85814) for $3.99 then attach socket to best spot to illuminate your license plate.

The light for the drivers side should have a light that shines out the bottom for the plate but you can always splice into the wires and add another light if
        necessary..

this has a clear lens on the bottom of the left light to mount above the license plate but you could hard wire a extra light into the wiring harness for the tail light as they are color coded.

    • Q:

Purchased this kit replaced old wiring and lights on my utility trailer, also replaced wiring kit on my 94 ranger with Hoppy Vehicle Wiring Kit Part No. 40215

The problem is all the lights work right except when I turn my headlights on the left side with license plate does not light up why?

I made sure it was grounded with the plate in I even added 2 larger washers then plate then lock washers and nuts in that order.

Hi Sourtherntide, glad to assist you! Sorry, without the presence of your vehicle I would not be able to properly diagnose it nor provide you with a 100% answer. I would suggest that you to take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.
