Good filter bang for the buck!!!!
I've used this specified filter on my 94 Taurus 3.8L for 19+ years now. It's top end is still squeaky clean.
The new shorter version of this filter has more filter media pleats, so it isn't shy any filter media surface area as some suppose, because its shorter than the original version. The extra media surface area allows the filter to hold more debris without undue pressure drop across the media. So we get good flow through the filter media, while filtering out smaller particles as the oil gets dirtier & the filter media loads up during the oil change intervial
Ford redesigned & shortened the filter up, so it could be used on newer engines with restricted spaces, but even though it's shorter, it still has as much filter media surface area as the older longer version.
It's published particle size filter specifications are the Min. Ford allows, not what the filter is capable of. UOA particle counts show it to do a much better job than the min numbers would suggest, more like what a Purolator Classic filter does.
It's more expensive to produce base end bypass valve location is where it belongs for inverted filter mounting, so if it goes into the bypass/unfiltered mode on a cold high rpm start, or when we get crazy & go WOT to pass, with the base end by-pass valve location it won't suck up debris washed off the filter media, or stirred up settled out dome end debris, like a less expensive to produce dome end bypass filter design could & that's good engineering design thinking by Ford on its inverted, or canted mounted oil filters.
The silicone anti-drainback valve will be more pliable & seal better in cold weather, preventing empty filter start up wear & dry cold starts & the resulting engine rattle those empty filter cold dry starts cause, so folks in really cold country will likely appreciate the silicone anti-drainback valve.
I also use this shorter filter on the Wife's 2000 Dodge Neon ohc engine & its eliminated the start up knock the Neon always had with the specified OEM Chrysler filter, that's so short it looked like it belonged on a danged lawn tractor engine!!!! It's a good filter bang for the buck for these & a Lot more reasons!!!!

i was buying aftermarket filters thinking they were better than motorcraft and boy was i wrong! it does the job it is suppose to do, if not better than some aftermarket filters, and costs less!
