I had already replaced the other 7 coil on plug units and somehow missed the number 6 cylinder. Lol. I must be getting old, or something, but when my truck started to misfire once again, only 4 months after I shelled out the money to replace ALL of the coils, I got a bit depressed. What had I missed? Well, like I said, number 6 cylinder! I'm actually wondering if I threw away a brand new coil, thinking it was an old one, but let's not go there:P Anyways, once I managed to extract the old one ( a bit of a feat, because it's hidden under fuel lines and kind of inaccessible), I got the new one installed in about ten minutes. I held my breath, started up the F-150, and it ran like brand new! Holy cow! Me like! So, the coils cost a bit, but they're certainly worth every cent! !

I recommend you pull the old one off and compare them at the counter before buying. It is real easy to remove...8mm bolt and disconnect wire and pull straight out... there is 2 different types out there.
The part number printed on the bag it comes in is DG-508 = P/N: 3W7Z-12029-AA. The Ignition Coil inside the bag is stamped P/N: 8W7E-12A366-AA. The part number stamped on my OEM 8 Cyl Ignition Coil is P/N: 3L3E-12A366-CA. The difference being..boot longer...boot slightly curved and wire connection almost 45 degrees off.

Comments about Motorcraft Original Equipment (O.E.) Ignition Coil:

Had a misfire in cylinder 5 on a 2001 Ford Expedition 5.4l. Bought this coil and a motorcraft plug and it immediately fixed the issue. It was very easy to install and my vehicle has been running like a top ever since. Always stick to OEM parts, they may cost a bit more but you get what you pay for.

        A:

Hi Barry, great question! If you are replacing any aspect of your ignition system, it is best to replace all serviceable components. Since you are in need to replace spark plugs and wires, the ignition coils are on the verge of failure and needs attention too.

        A:

Symptoms of a bad ignition coil: An ignition coil that is completely dead will prevent the engine from starting or will stop the engine if the car is running at the time of failure. This is because no current will reach the spark plugs. An ignition coil that is failing will still provide current to the plugs, but it might not be enough for a full spark and the car will run sluggishly. If the current being provided by the coil isn't consistent, the car will run rough. For further assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our representatives would be more than happy to assist you.
