Well, the last time I did a set of Plugs I blew a lot of cash on the newer Iridium plugs. Yea, I bit into the hype about easier ignition adding horsepower and increasing fuel efficiency. Horsepower, maybe. Fuel efficiency, no. Folks, I have six cars ranging from 4 to 10 cylinders and have had a chance to try various configurations of plugs of different varieties and from different manufacturers. My experienced opinion is now just to stick with the OEM style of plug and to buy US made. These are the OEM style and are US made. I did indeed get better fuel efficiency with these. Thanks Motocraft. Keep up the good work.

For Ford ignition systems - always use OEM whenever possible - ALWAYS for spark plugs. These plugs are fantastic and Ford modular engines love them - in my case a 2V 4.6L.

Comments about Motorcraft Original Equipment Finewire Single Platinum Spark Plug:

I changed one of these original plugs out in my engine because the coil was misfirng so I replaced the plug while I was at it. This was the original plug in the car and I pulled it and it sill looked new, no corrosion, good electrode, SAME GAP.

The new one works exactly the same as the original part and will probably last until the end. It didn't come pre-gapped though.

Check out the picture of the old spark plug which is the SAME EXACT THING. The plug had 205,000 miles on it from my 1999 V8 Yamaha SHO engine and still looked pretty good!

            I have a one owner
2001 Ford Ranger 3.0L 6cyl Vin U and my Check engine light came on so I changed the spark plugs at 60000 which were slightly eroded. I put in 6 SP-432 even though the replacement called for AWSF32PP. I gapped them to .044" and it runs ok but could be better and my idle is rough, so rough that the antenna moves around. Is .044 the right gap for these plugs?

It provide service intervals from 60,000 to 100,000 miles. If you clean these plugs you will damage the platinum coating on the electrodes. So we do not recommend regap of platinum plugs.

It could of been the wrong temperature of a plug, torqued down to hard or to loose, or the spark plug was a bad plug.

            • A:

Plugs can get damaged by pre detonation or pinging in the engine under load. There can be a lot of reasons for pinging to happen but on my 2001 Taurus it needed a good top end engine cleaning. I used SeaFoam and it seemed to take care of the pinging under load. It could also just have been a bad plug.
