Comments about Lucas Oil Products SAE 80W-90 Gear Oil 32 oz.:

I purchased a 2000 GMC Jimmy 4x4 from a coworker and the rear diff cover was rusted and needed fluid swapped. Front diff had seals leaking and needed a fluid swap as well. I replaced the old dark fluid with the Lucas gear oil and I noticed within 50 miles of driving that the diffs were actually quiet and the SUV feels smoother, especially on the highway. I replaced my rear diff cover with a brand new one and a Fel-Pro gasket and stainless bolts! I TRUST Lucas!

Comments about Lucas Oil Products SAE 80W-90 Gear Oil 32 oz.:

Known for their high quality, I've been told. I used this to fill back up my gear box (redrive) on my paramotor used for flying. I've been told the box gets up to 400 degrees....this oil has worked great for that purpose. I wanted to use racing quality oil for its durability.

              • Q:

I have a 1957 Chevy bel air. With the stock rear end. I'm changing the differential fluid. Should I go with the Lucas 80-90 or the Lucas synthetic 75-90. I'm not sure about synthetics in such an old rear end. I have heard mixed suggestions, synthetic might make it leak to synthetic is just better and does not matter. Thanks

                  A:

Hi Old Chevy, glad to assist you! The Lucas 80W-90 enjoys the technology Lucas developed in making the "Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer", the number one supplemental oil in the heavy duty industry. This gear oil formula is fortified with special anti-wear agents and lubricity agents to control wear and drag as well as special additives to control heat. These features are not found in ordinary gear oils. This gear oil is both excellent for race cars and any heavy-duty application where plain gear oils just aren't good enough. For the technical data sheet, please copy and paste this link. URL - http://lucasoil.com/pdf/TDS_Lucas-SAE-80W-90.pdf. For more information, I would suggest that you contact the Lucas directly at 800-342-2512 and they would be in a better position to help you.

I'm happy to help! This Lucas Oil SAE 80W-90 Gear Oil does not have any indications that it is compatible with yellow metals. A few GL-5 gear oils are yellow metal safe. You may find more yellow metal safe gear oils in the 75W-90 viscosity. Mobil1 indicates that it is safe with copper and Royal Purple also states that their gear oil is yellow metal safe.
