The part was exactly what I needed and had on the car I was having repaired. The construction of it seemed of good quality and lightweight. There was no problems when I had the part installed on the car. What I really liked was that the part came complete( it had the drain hose and the cover). I had thought about going to the salvage yard and finding a used one, but when I called and got a quote, I decided to purchase it new from advance. From now on I will call Advance before I go to a junkyard. It was very convinient looking it up online, that really saves time and money. I was really satisfied with my purchase.

Installed to replace an original tank that developed a stripped cap. Fit perfect and was easy to install. Five months later, the tank developed a minute crack along the seam causing the unit to lose fluid. Didn't see any evidence on the driveway, but had to replenish the expansion tank every three to four weeks. I can recommend this for a temporary replacement or back-up, but I wouldn't depend on this part for Long-Term usage.

Hi Dee, good question! It depends upon the skill level of the person performing the operation. For help with your project, I recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.

the black hose that is pictured with the reservoir, is it suppose to be attached to something other than the reservoir?

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

The tube does not attach anywhere, it is there to route antifreeze out of the tank if your pressure exceeds. It is used as a relief for the coolant in your radiator. Either pressure or excess fluid will spill from there.

No, but can cause scaling in the engine and can cause corrosion in the engine.

Answered on 8/5/2011 by DIY Daniel from AAP
        • A:

If the air temp outside is below freezing, it may likely cause your overflow tank to "bust". You should NEVER put just straight water (unmixed with antifreeze) into your coolant overflow tank OR the radiator. An emergency would be the only time to use just water. Fully drain and add a 50/50 mix as soon as possible after such an emergency situation. Adding water to a vehicle's cooling system will cause coolant dilution, leading to problems. In colder temps, particularly those below freezing, ice can form in the cooling system, leading to the potential for a cracked/ruined engine block, a ruined radiator, a ruined overflow tank, a ruined heater core, shorten the life of the water pump, and could ruin anything pertaining to the cooling system. In warmer ambient (outdoor air) temps, straight water will create internal rusting, scaling, & a lower boiling point for the coolant system. This may lead to engine overheating due to boiling of the straight water or a heavily diluted coolant mix.

There is nothing wrong with the gasket coming off the cap, some people however would replace it because you may forget and pull the cap off and the gasket fall to the ground, then you would have a problem. Hope this helps
