  • Q:

This harmonic balancer is for a 3.8 liter ? . Is there other part that could be replaced while that part of the engine is being worked on? An what could have been effected by bad harmonic balancer . I drove it for about 3 weeks . Was advised not to drive . But no money needed to get to work anyway. Timing ? As you probably realized by now I am not a car mechanic but I have replaced a few parts in my lifetime . But never even heard of a harmonic balancer. Until mine bad. Any advise what to check ? Thank you

I'm glad to assist, Whiskyriverdiver! Harmonic balancers are used to dampen vibration caused by the explosions in the engine. This is usually especially important in V6 engines as it takes more to balance the engine in general. Other than the harsh vibrations you may feel from the balancer or dampener failing, it could also crack your crankshaft or even throw your serpentine belt off its track.

A new serpentine belt may be needed. Unless the crankshaft ended up cracked from failing balancer, there should not be any other required items for this replacement on your Ford 3.8L V6.
