  • Q:

Will this part repair the problem of having steering that feels as if it looses steering pressure and slips one way or the other? I have replaced all parts in the front end, the steering box and still am having this problem. I have heard of others having this problem on this year model of Chevrolet PU.

I'm glad to assist, Dale! This Dorman - Help Steering Wheel Speed Sensor (Part No. 31025) may resolve the problem you've been having with the steering on your 1998-2003 Chevrolet Silverado or C/K pickup. GM does have a service bulletin (#03-02-26-002: SMU) for the problem you are describing indicating that the steering wheel position sensor or steering shaft lower bearing needs to be replaced. For replacement procedures and additional diagnostic procedures, be sure to have a repair manual (Chilton Part No. 28625 for 1999-2006 model years and Chilton Part No. 28624 or Haynes Part No. 24065 for the 1988-1998 model years).

If you need additional diagnostic assistance, please try our 'Need expert help?' link, located further down this page.
