Q:i need to know how to remove the distributor drive gear from the engine block on a 1999 dodge durango with a 5.2l engine. i bought a manual for this vehical but there is nothing in the book on how to do it. i got the shaft to pull up after turning it with a flat head on a rachet. but it seems like the gear at the bottom end of the shaft is stopping at the cam. how do i get it passed the point so i can remove it completely?
A:Take a strong, thin wire and work it down under the gear. It would be easy to stand on the passenger side and work it into the driver side of the gear. Once you get it under there, with a large screwdriver in the slot of the drive shaft, work the gear back and forth as you pull up on the wire. You may need to wrap the wire around something to let you pull harder. Use the screwdriver to give a little counter-pressure so the gear does not come flying out.
