TriShield is a unique triple-action technology that attracts, captures and disperses particles that can build up in engines and causes sludge build-up. TriShield stops small particles from becoming big problems, and protects the car you rely on. This innovative technology uses a polymer that contains two chemical hooks that attract and capture both sludge and soot in a single molecule, helping to prevent particles from building up. With TriShield Technology, Castrol has improved the potency and protection that GTX provides.

Product Features:
  • Unique TriShield technology actively protects against particles that build up in car engines with the most advanced sludge-fighting ingredients
  • Castrol GTX uses premium, custom-made additives and is the most advanced conventional oil available
  • Maximum protection against viscosity and thermal breakdown
  • Extreme detergency action helps prevent deposits
  • Exceeds API Service SM, SL, SJ and SH; ILSAC GF-4/GF-3/GF-2 for API Certified Gasoline Engine Oils; meets Energy Conserving Standards; GM6094M
  • Exceeds demanding US high-shear and stay-in-grade requirements for viscosity breakdown protection

I switched from the oil in the yellow bottle that starts with the letter P and I tell you I think my truck is running better with this oil in it. It seem to reduce engine noise, feels more smooth. I know I had about 3-4k miles on the last oil change so dont know, either im seeing and hearing things or something changed.

I bought a used Honda Accord with 70K on it. I was initially running Motorcraft 5W-20 synthetic blend because I also had an F-150 that took the same oil. At 100K I pulled the valve cover to do a valve adjustment. Clean as a whistle inside. I had been noticing though that the engine used a small amount of oil, about 1/2 a quart every 1K. I found this is common for the 2.4 Honda engines and the easy fix is switch to 5W-30. This is the point I started using the Castrol GTX.

A little over 25K later I again removed the valve cover to install a new gasket set. I was shocked to see sludge deposits all over the inside of the valve cover. Some more research verified this oil is prone to coking. I will no longer use Castrol GTX. If you like it fine, but DO NOT let it go past 3K without a change. I don't do short trips or dirt roads and figured 5K changes were fine, as they were with the Motorcraft I used previously. Wrong. You have been warned.

  • Q:

Can 5w30 be used for a 2008 Ford Edge SE?
Asked on 4/15/2017 by Anthony Bradley

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Glad to assist, Anthony Bradley! According to Castrol's lubrication guide recommended for the 2008' Ford Edge 3.5L 6cyl is the following: For all temperatures the Castrol GTX UltraClean 5W-20 a part synthetic motor oil meeting the Ford specification of M2C930-A or the Castrol Edge 5W-20 a full synthetic motor oil meeting the Ford specification of M2C930-A. The Castrol GTX 5W-30 is not the recommended viscosity and does not meet the Ford specification of M2C930-A, therefore not suitable for use for the application.
