Castrol EDGE is three times stronger against viscosity breakdown than the leading synthetic and leading conventional oils. The unique titanium technology physically changes the way oil behaves under extreme pressures doubling its film strength, preventing oil from breaking down and reducing friction to maximize engine performance.

Product Features:
  • Castrol EDGE with Fluid Titanium has twice the film strength of our previous formula based on the HFRR friction test.
  • Tested in 5W-30 versus all major conventional brands, Mobil1 and Mobil1 Extended Performance in the ASTM D6278 test.
  • Motor oil formulated to meet the needs of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen and is compatible with all conventional and synthetic motor oils
  • Meets or exceeds API SL, SJ, CF; GM-LL-B-025; VW 502 00, 505 00; BMW LONG LIFE-98; ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4; ILSAC GF-3 for API Certified Gasoline Engine motor Oils

This seems to be the oil that most people have the most success with for the Fiat 1.4L Turbo engine in the Dodge Dart. Decent price, it was ready when I came to pick it up. What's not to like?

If the Benz spec is listed on the back of the bottle, then yes it is fine. Oil spec can be found in the owners manual.

I'm not sure. I used for an Audi which is what was recommended for that vehicle. I would think it would be adequate as it is a very high grade oil. However your best bet is to check with Mercedes dealer or find a Mercedes forum

If your car calls for 5w-40 then yes, this is a good choice. I use in both
of my Porsches. Very common for European cars.

I have (and currently own) BMW's, Audi's and a Mercedes and almost all of the German cars call for 5W40. Most of their preferred brands are Castrol. I have used Castrol in all of my vehicles. Sure if you really try you can find better oil but really the differences are so close amongst the ones that are readily available that it's not worth wasting your time. I guess to be a little more clear this oil is just as good as anything the dealer uses. To be completely honest you may want to opt for a dealer filter. That will make a bigger difference than the oil itself. The Mann Hummel filters I would say are the same as the dealership filter but the difference is if you have a problem and you take the car in they can't see the exact oil but they can see the stamp on the side of the filter and they will blame it on not having the correct filter. Audi did that to me when a pcv valve went and drops the oil pressure from collapsing the filter. They said it's because it wasn't the oem filter and that caused all of the issues. I told them just to replace the filter and nothing else if the filter is the root cause and not the valve. They back peddled and said the valve needed replaced as well probably. It's just games but for $5 extra it may be worth it (or at least just keep your old filter and if anything happens toss it on before taking it into them). It's a pain but worth it.

Happy to help you with your question Wilfredo! We currently do not have the capability to provide that information, because your vehicle is not for the US market. Is this suitable for my VW Passat 2005 TDi station wagon?
    Asked on 3/11/2015 by Neil

    2 answers

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Hi Neil, good question! No, this is not compatible with turbo diesel engines. You will require a motor oil that meets the VW 505.01 specifications. I do not see a compatible one available online. However I would recommend that you check with the nearest Advance store for a compatible motor oil.

Answered on 3/12/2015 by John the Car-Doc from AAP
    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Hi Neil, I'm glad to assist you! The correct grade of oil to use will be listed in the automobile owner's manual. As far as whether to use a conventional or synthetic - that depends on the driver, the conditions and the type of driving that you do. Both conventional and synthetic oils will protect your engine, synthetic oils provide superior protection to conventional oils. Synthetics also provide much better protection at extreme temperatures and severe driving conditions. Some automobiles do require synthetic oils, this would also be mentioned in the owner's manual. According to the lubricating guide recommended for the 2005 Volkswagen Passat Station Wagon TDI, it meets VW 505 01 specification. Castrol EDGE Professional 5W-30 meets this requirement and is available online. Regrettably, Castrol EDGE 5W-40 does not meet the requirements of your vehicle, and is not recommended to use.
