The thermostat was a good fit and included gaskets for other applications. The thermostat was stuck and it took a bit of force to free it up. Luckily, I checked it and freed it up before installing it. It may have hung up and not opened at the proper temperature if at all if it hadn't been popped free prior to installation. This is not an issue unique to the Stant thermostat and is something that should be checked before installing any new thermostat. It's too early to evaluate durability since the thermostat was just installed last week. However, the thermostat has performed as designed so far and there is no sign of any leakage.

it will work if your in a pinch. was not impressed at first it allowed my temp to go well over before it opened. but after talking to some people it has a self adjusting mechanism in it and you have to let it do its thing and adjust its self first. its not oem but it will work. plus is it comes with the rubber seal already so you dont have to buy one.

I have a carpet cleaning van. When the outside temp is over 85, my van temp gets to 260. Do i need a special thermostsat?

      A:

you just might need a new one, it is designed to open at 188 F if you are reaching temps of 260 something is wrong, but there are a number of reasons for raise in temp not just the thermostat. why not take it to your local Advance store and have them run a dianostic test on it, see what they can find.

    • A:

The design of the OEM pump was changed in 2004 so if you have an earlier vehicle (or one on/after 2004), this will be the right thermostat. If you have vehicle earlier than 2004, the thermostat housing is different and this thermostat wont work. What is confusing is that some aftermarket new pumps are the old design (2.05 inch opening) and some are the new design (1.88 inch opening). It is difficult to tell until you have the pump off the vehicle but one way to tell is how the thermostat housing looks from the outside. The housing has a large diameter pipe going into a half-hemisphere that transitions into a flange. If you can see about 3/4 of the half-hemisphere, it is the new style housing, if the large pipe covers about half of the half-hemisphere, it is the old style, if that makes sense.
