my original one went and died on me and I ended up replacing it, one of the cons is knowing where the bolts are because 1 of them is near a engine stabilizer bolt and is hidden under a manifold cover, I had to take a crow bar to get it off and found out that the internal gear was literally stuck in place, I replaced it, added some fresh trans fluid and now it runs even better

I picked this starter up at the store and had a mechanic install it. It did not work properly, so he had to take it out and I had to go pick it up and get another one. Take the new one back to him and pay him to install another one. Needless to say I was not happy with this product and all the time and money it cost me to get a product that did not work right the first time.

Replaced it on a 02 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport. Couldn't have done it without help. Make sure to have a deep 15 mm socket. You will need it for the top mounting bolt. They starter didn't line up properly the first time so make sure it is flat to the mounting surface before you start tightening up. Had to turn the gear a little and try again.

                        A:

The starter should be located under the car engine. You will see it mounted onto the transmission housing. You can trace the path of the positive battery cable to find the starter.

I'm not sure how close it would be but probably fairly close. I just changed the starter in a 2000 Caravan and if you can handle wrenches and sockets you should be fine. Google your van and terms like "change starter" or something like that. You will find someone had done it and posted a how to on it.

Its a clicking sound when trying to crank it. It will click a few times and then finally crank. Does this sound like it could be the starter?

                      • A:

Probably. The clicking could be the starter relay kicking in. The solenoid on the starter is probably going bad. That used to ba a separate part but now comes as a whole unit. Eventually it will quit starting completely.
