Just installed the product this week so don't know about it's durability yet. The "ToughOne" installed prior to this one lasted 2 years. Warranty covered the exchange at no cost to me (advice, save your receipt just in case. It's definitely worth it).

I am on my third one of these starters. The first one made as much noise as the 20 year old one I took out, the second one didn't even fit in the car apparently having been incorrectly labeled, and the third one is getting noisy as well. Not sure if I feel like trying a fourth.

I bought this starter and soon after my car began to make a horrible screeching sound when being started. Exchanged starter for another one, same problem, but now it's even worse. The car struggles to start up. There might be a defect with this starter that causes the gear to not match up well with my 96 Honda Accord.

                            A:

Installation instructions: 1. Position the starter next to the transaxle assembly and replace all three mounting bolts. For 2.2L, 2.3L and 3.0L engines, torque the mounting bolts to 33 foot pounds (45 Nm) and the wire terminal nut to seven foot pounds (nine Nm). For 2.7L engines, torque the mounting bolts to 47 foot pounds (64 Nm) and the wire terminal nut to 6.5 foot pounds (nine Nm). 2. Reconnect the wire cable to terminal-S and the starter cable to terminal-B. Be sure that the crimped side of the terminal end is facing out when reinstalling the heavy gauge starter cable. If applicable, replace the lower radiator hose (2.2L and 2.3L engines) and the ATF cooler (3.0L engines). Reinstall the starter motor wiring harness. 3. Lower your Honda Accord back to the ground. Reconnect the positive battery cable, followed by the negative battery cable. Turn the key in the ignition to see if your new starter motor functions correctly. 4. Enter the anti-theft code for your stereo system and any presets. For more information, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our technicians would be more than happy to assist you.

For the best help with this project, the best help would come from getting a repair manual for your vehicle. It is very hard to explain how to replace it over text.

                          • A:

If you have trouble finding starter motor, just follow positive battery cable down engine compartment, it leads to the starter.

                            NOTE:
The factory sound system has a coded theft protection system. It is recommended that you know your reset code before you begin.

                            REMOVAL:
                            Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the wiring harness from the starter motor.
Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the bracket on the starter motor.
Remove the starter cable from terminal B located on the back of the solenoid.
Remove the black/white wire from the S (solenoid) terminal.
Unfasten the two bolts that mount the starter to the transaxle assembly, then remove the starter from the vehicle.

                            INSTALLATION:
Install the starter in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the starter mounting bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm) and the wire terminal nut to 7 ft. lbs. (9 Nm).
When installing the heavy gauge starter cable, make sure the crimped side of the terminal end is facing out.
                            Enter radio code
