Purchased the recommended radiator cap for a replacement radiator (Ready-Rad) for a 94 Integra. Other reviews stated the cap did not fit properly. I dont know what model number was used in this particular case, but the cap I received was a perfect fit. Upon searching the Advance site for a replacement radiator, the compatible cap was listed. Both radiator and cap were ordered and recieved in a timely manner. Free shipping is a huge plus along with the online discounts offered by Advance. Upon a replacement of the radiator and a flush and fill the new cap was installed. The cap is a little light weight in construction but fits fine.

The picture shows Stant 10242 radiator cap, but actual product sold in store is different. Carquest 10242 I purchased was "non-vented" type while Stant 10242 is "vented" type.
Non-vented type is technically also vented, but has spring loaded vent valve and stays closed unless vacuum occurs (as coolant cools). Vented type has a loose vent valve which closed under pressure.

Non-vented radiator cap will fit and work on radiator that came with vented radiator cap, but it is best to use same type of part the manufacturer used. Both Toyota and Honda uses vented type.

Returned this cap and purchased Stant 10242 elsewhere.

Build quality of this cap seems slightly better than Stant.

Comments about CARQUEST Caps and Stats Radiator Cap:

I just bought a used 99 Honda Accord and when I took off the factory radiator cap some of the factory cap protrudes down into the neck of the radiator and that protruding part had become unattached from the cap. So I knew I needed a quality replacement cap and this one fit the bill. Always use retailmenot.com for coupon codes to save money online with Advance.

Will this cap allow the antifreeze to be sucked back into the radiator from the zero pressure overflow tank.

                    A:

Hi Speed Racer, glad to assist you! The car's radiator acts as a heat exchanger, transferring excess heat from the engine's coolant fluid into the air. The radiator is composed of tubes that carry the coolant fluid, a protective cap that's actually a pressure valve and a tank on each side to catch the coolant fluid overflow. In addition, the tubes carrying the coolant fluid usually contain a turbulator, which agitates the fluid inside. This way, the coolant fluid is mixed together, cooling all the fluid evenly, and not just cooling the fluid that touches the sides of the tubes. By creating turbulence inside the tubes, the fluid can be used more effectively. When coolant fluid overheats, it expands, causing the fluid to become highly pressurized. When it enters the radiator, the pressure increases even more because it's in an enclosed space. The radiator cap acts as a release valve set to open at the maximum pressure point. Usually this is set at a density of 15 pounds per square inch (psi). When the fluid pressure inside the radiator exceeds 15 psi, it forces the valve open, allowing heat to escape and excess coolant fluid to overflow into the tanks on either side of the radiator. Once the radiator cools down, the coolant fluid in the overflow tanks gets sucked back into the pump, continuing its route through the cooling system.

                    A:

With reference to your inquiry on the Stant Radiator Cap - part# 10242, a defective radiator cap can cause poor cabin heat in a 2003 Chevy Tracker. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For any further assistance, you may also call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

Yes, if the radiator cap has been worn out or lost, it can cause the engine to overheat and lose coolant.

yes readiator sysrems are pressurized to help raise the pressure and maintain the temp. If it is weak it will force the fluid out.
