It was slightly challenging to get the transmission oil and engine oil cooler lines installed. Seems like this radiator sits at a slight different angle than the original. With a little effort things slipped right into place.

GM made it easy to change radiator on an s-1o. You dont even have to remove the fan. Radiator came with new connections for trans cooler, but not for oil cooler. But doesn't matter, because the new connections are poorly milled anyway. Burrs left on the groove for the ring clip prevent the hose from going in all the way. Used all the connections from my old radiator. But you can't beat the price.

Comments about CARQUEST Radiator:

Only lasted a little over a year and a half; the seal between the metal and the plastic tank failed on the left side. The only upside is that there's a one-time free replacement (via refund), but the old radiator has to brought in at the same time the new one is picked up.

  • Q:

How much fluid does it hold ? 3 gallons ????
Asked on 8/29/2014 by Don from Kerrville, Texas

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Sorry, that specification is not available. An approximate answer can be derived using the dimensions of the radiator core listed and converting them into the volume by using the formula Height x Length x Width [15" x 26.25" x 1"] and we arrive at 393.75 cubic inches. If we convert the cubic inches to gallons [1 cubic inch = 0.004329 gallons], we come up with 1.7045 U.S. gallons. If you factor in the fins and that there is not liquid in the total area calculated, and then you adjust for the amount of coolant stored in the tanks, it is probably about 1.35 gallons that the radiator itself holds. The entire coolant system will probably hold about 4-5 gallons which is the norm.

Good question, Ken! It does not list o-rings in the build of materials.
