It's a cheaply made part from China. It took me at least an extra hour to get both axles to "fit". The splines were not completely machined so I had to deburr them by hand with a small file. You get what you pay for.... My axles were [$] ea from Advance, which does beat $367 ea from Dodge. You get what you pay for!

This axle seems well made. I had more problems getting the old one out then getting the new one on. Came with new clip, O ring and axle nut.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

The CV Axle Shaft looks well made and precise, however the attention to detail and actual insatllation were difficult. If not for reading previous comments I most likely never would have been able to install this item. The splines were cut so sharp that they would not allow assembly. I got a diamond tip file for my Dremel and went to town filing in between the splines to allow for assembly. Bottom line is they should try to install their own product before they sell it!

I wish that I would have read the comments before getting the warrenty replacement. I put this axle in new back in 1-27-11 and then had to replace on 3-21-11. The inside boot split in 3 places.

BOUGHT PART BECAUSE THEY FIT THE BUDGET FOR REPAIRING THE TRUCK. READ THE ABOVE REVIEW AFTER
BUYING. SO I SAW THERE MIGHT BE ISSUES SO I WAS READY WITH FILES AND PICKS JUST IN CASE. TRIED
INSTALLING THE SHAFT DRY WITH NO C-CLIP AND THEY
WOULD NOT GO ON, ENDED UP AS WELL FILLING DOWN
THE BURRS. ALSO IT DID NOT COME WITH A WASHER
          FOR THE HUB NUT.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

I replaced both sides with these ones. Started hearing what i thought was a wheel bearing going bad on the drivers side. when i did check the boot is destroyed. so i looked at the other side and its the same way. It was only 3 months since i changed them and normal driving. No off road. So now i have to replace them.

Comments about CARQUEST CV Shafts New CV Axle Shaft Assembly:

Purchased 2 of the exact same part number for my 2003 Dodge 1500 4X4 and one fit perfectly. The second one purchased a week later with the same part number was 2" short on the inner shaft which means it didn't even lock in. Test drove vehicle and horrible wobble! Taking back to get right part, unfortunate carquest doesn't reimburse for work to remove it a second time. Watch for different size boxes if you order 2 because they are same part number but different parts in boxes. More quality control is needed at factory as this part fits in all splines but definitely is wrong!
