NOT AN EXACT FIT

      Comments about CARQUEST Heater Core:

This unit is two inches deep and the hole it goes into is three inches. The rest of the dimensions are fine I think. As the first poster noted, you can modify it, but what a PITA.

      Comments about CARQUEST Heater Core:

This part is definitely NOT an exact fit for a 1987 D21 Nissan pick-up. Had to modify the installation as follows:
You will need to take the hot water valve off from this part and turn it around. The lever will now scrape on the housing, but not severely enough to damage it. The lever will still move and work. This replacement heat exchanger is also smaller than the original width wise. (Length fits fine.) Used polyurethane foam to very carefully close the gaps between exchanger and body housing. Also the original clamp fastener to hold the exchanger down will no longer fit and produce a gap between the body and the exchanger core. I used some pipe insulation foam and folded it over to fit between the clamp and exchanger core to hold the core firmly in place without damaging it.
On a positive note, this replacement exchanger is solid metal! No plastic parts except for the valve. The original heater core had plastic that cracked and sprang a leak, facilitating my replacement of the unit.
