This is a good OEM substitute product. I used it on my 1993 Ford F150 4x4. It's a good all-around wait although you could use the heavier synthetic options like 75W-140, especially if you're in hot climates or are pushing things to the max. The 80W-90 option covers a wide spectrum and addresses most people's needs.

It's gear oil, what can I say?

Absolutely no clue on long term of this product. Just put it in a high mileage driver to save a couple bucks. I'm sure it will outlast the vehicle.

I haven't seized my differential since refilling using this. I guess it works as expected. It's gear lube, pretty simple.

Hi! I was just wondering if you could tell me the shelf life of SAE 80W-90 Gear Oil.

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Great question, Lizzy! When stored in original sealed containers, the minimum shelf life is four (4) years. Store in tightly closed containers in a dry, cool place, away from sources of heat, ignition or strong oxidizers. Ground and bond all transfer and storage equipment and equip with self closing valves, pressure vacuum bungs and flame arrestors.

will this tipe of gear oil SAE 80W-90 WORK FOR A 2002 HONDA 250EX IN THE REAR END SO I CAN CHANGE MY REEND GEAR OIL IT IS TIME TO CHANGE IT
Asked on 5/24/2014 by RJ EADES from JACKSON COUNTY W.V.

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

I'm happy to help, RJ! From my research, many owners of the 2002 Honda 250EX do use an 80W-90 gear oil meeting GL-4 and/or GL-5 specifications. It is recommended to follow your owner's manual for fluid types. If you do not have access to your owner's manual I suggest contacting your local Honda ATV dealer for recommendations.

Is this lubricant recommended for a Dana 30, limited slip differential? How about a Dana 44 with ARB air locker? Thanks!
Asked on 9/17/2012 by Jon from Swansboro, NC

        1 answer

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

No, I would not recommend the 80W-90 gear oil (Advance Auto Parts 80W-90 Gear Oil - Part No. A137/12401) for a Dana 30 limited slip differential. The Mobil1 Synthetic Gear Lubricant LS 75W-90 (1 qt.) (Part No. 98W573) would be an ideal part. This 75W-90 is applicable with a Dana 44 with ARB air locker as well. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto store and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

      • Q:

Is this product safe for use in my Borg Warner T-18 manual transmission? After putting it in, I read that GL-5 lube is corrosive to yellow metals such as the synchros. How about a Dana 300 transfer case? Thank you!
Asked on 9/17/2012 by Jon from Swansboro, NC

        1 answer

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Yes, it is true that some GL-5 lube is not recommended to use in a Borg Warner T-18 manual transmission. Some GL-5 lube is corrosive to yellow metals such as the synchros. I would recommend the Valvoline DuraBlend DuraBlend 80W-90 Gear Oil (Part No. VV280) over the Advance Auto Parts 80W-90 Gear Oil (Part No. A137/12401). Also Valvoline lube is GL-4 grade which is best suited for a Dana 300 transfer case too. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto store and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.
