Check Vehicle Fit

Please note: Advance Auto Parts is proud to carry comparable exact-fit parts from multiple vendors, as such, the item you receive may be one of two quality brands. Both brands meet the same fitment requirements and are equal in their performance and specifications. The fan clutch is the component of the cooling system that varies the fan speed to meet the cooling needs of the engine. The fan clutch provides high airflow volume and, by only operating the fan as needed, promotes good fuel economy. CARQUEST fan clutches are designed to meet OE performance specifications.

  • Q:

will this fan clutch, at times, not spin at all? Or spin very slowly? The one currently in my Mercury Mountaineer (8cyl) seems to spin full speed all the time when the car is running.
This seems to be causing a cool engine temp. I replaced the thermostat already.

      A:

Hi Tom! Few common symptoms of a bad fan clutch are engine overheating, fan wobble, and a slow speed. A fan clutch that is going bad can cause the fan to not spin as quickly as normal. If you park your car and have another person rev the engine while you look under the hood, you may notice the engine fan speeds up only a little. Under normal circumstances, the fan speeds up quite a bit as the engine revs. However, I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.
