Check Vehicle Fit

Please note: Advance Auto Parts is proud to carry comparable exact-fit parts from multiple vendors, as such, the item you receive may be one of two quality brands. Both brands meet the same fitment requirements and are equal in their performance and specifications. The fan clutch is the component of the cooling system that varies the fan speed to meet the cooling needs of the engine. The fan clutch provides high airflow volume and, by only operating the fan as needed, promotes good fuel economy. CARQUEST fan clutches are designed to meet OE performance specifications.

  • Q:

how do check clutch to see if its bad?
    Asked on 8/9/2010 by GMAN56

    1 answer

One easy way is to check it with the engine off. With the engine off open the hood and try and turn the fan counter clockwise. If it doesn't move then the clutch should be good, but if it does move freely in both directions, then the clutch is most likely bad.

  • Q:

if this part is bad would it cause my 1994 Ranger to run hot with air on and stopped at a red light or just idling
Asked on 5/29/2010 by Dave from Easley S.C.

Yes, this could cause your vehicle to run hot when idling or stopped at a red light if the fan is not turning on.
