This is a true Double-Roller timing chain, which these engine were equipped with from the Factory. The S.A. Gear chain is an exact replacement for your GM 6.2 or 6.5 Diesel engine, no matter the vehicle it is in, and fits both turbo and non-turbo engines. These timing chains have to be Big, strong, and built with quality to stand up to what these engines demand, because the timing chain also drives the Injection pump.
Usually, if your old chain has excessive slack, you can hear it quite easily, and it sounds just like and old worn out kid bike being peddled to fast. When they get tired, replace them ASAP! if the engine jumps time, it can destroy itself in a matter of seconds, with little or no warning.
The other added benefits of having your timing accurate and consistent with a new chain, is: Greatly improved power, fuel economy, smoother operation, better throttle response, and easier cold starts.
When you replace your chain, you do not need to replace the gears, they are made of forged steel, and wear very little, HOWEVER, make sure you thoroughly inspect them. Make absolutely sure that you have the engine at TDC, and mark all the gears before removal of any of the timing components,(you have to remove the pump gear before you can even access the others, so mark it separately, then remove it.) Also always use BLUE locktite on any internal engine fasteners, you don't want those falling out into a running engine!
Haynes Manual is full of non-sense about all the fancy procedures, just put the engine at TDC with the mark on the balancer, then, make sure the two dots on the pump gears are lined up before removal of anything, and put everything back the way you found it during assembly, and you can't go wrong.
Also best to remove the radiator for this job too, it gives you alot of extra work space you will need. The entire job took me about 12 hours, so plan a weekend project.
But once you have completed it, the performace and many more miles will be greatly rewarding. Not to mention, the whole job, including gaskets and seals only cost me about 100 dollars. You will have to drop your coolant, and change your oil when you are done.

A:yes this is a true heavy duty double-roller timing chain, for the 6.2/6.5 GM Diesel engines, will fit all models from 1984-1998. Turbo, or non-turbo.Perfect factory replacement, i just installed one 2 days ago, and it fit perfect.
