This is the exact replacement pulley for my 2.5 Wrangler. Be aware though, that it is NOT an exact replacement for the adjustable/tensioner pulley. Simple replacement, loosen the 15mm locknut on the drivers side pulley, back the adjuster bolt far out to make it easier, then remove the pulley on the passenger side making sure to take any spacers/washers out as well. Insert the spacer and thread the bolt into the mount. Adjust the tensioner/adjustable pulley and check the serpentine belt tension, lock the adjustable pulley down, you should be good to go. As I said, this pulley will NOT exactly replace the drivers side pulley, it has a smaller dimension. Easy repair, did mine in about 15 minutes. Everything is nice and quiet again.

I don't think so!

While changing the alternator I decided to install a new idler pulley. My Jeep has two but I just needed to replace one. Was a big surprise when I tried to install the bolt insert into the bearing. The diameter was about a millimeter too big to fit into the hole. Was not happy. I used the old insert as I couldn't return to AA it was closed.

Comments about CARQUEST by Dayco Idler Pulley:

My vehicle is a 1995 Jeep Cherokee Sport, almost a classic, runs like a charm, parts have never been changed until now, I bought it second hand and driven it for 7 years. I replaced both the belt and the pully, and it sounds wonderful, and my gas milage has improved, thank you Advanced Auto!

Installed this on my '97 Cherokee. It looks like the original and fits like the original. It appears well made. The pulley itself is made in USA, but the bearings are made in [*] I prefer to support USA made parts, but so far I am very happy with this. I had no problems whatsoever with installation.

Pulley is slightly larger in diameter than the one that was in my 95 Jeep Cherokee 4.0. No problems installing. Works great in conjunction with a gatorback fan belt.

Seems well made. Installed on 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Old pulley self-destructed and chewed up the mounting; I had to file this flat before the new pulley would fit straight.

                      • Q:

I am looking for the idler Pulley which is part of the tensioner assembly. 1999 Chrysler T&C Ltd 3.8L. The complete tensioner product (Dayco 89251) uses the same pulley that is offered separately (the Dayco 89006) the difference is there is an outer cover between the bolt and the bearing. If you look at the picture of part 89251 (tensioner) you can see the cover over the bearing. I do not want to remove my tensioner, I just want to change the pulley. Which is the correct part? Thanks

Yes, Anthony! You are correct in using Dayco No Slack Idler Pulley - Part No. 89006 as just the replacement pulley for the tensioner on your 1999 Chrysler T&C Ltd 3.8L.

I'm looking for an idler pulley, not a tensioner pulley. That said, is the idler pulley the same pulley used in the tensioner pulley assembly? Can the the same pulley be used in either place?

no the idler pulley isn't the same as a tensioner pulley. idler puller is smooth around and the tensioner pulley normally has the ribs in it for the inside of the serpentine belt

Looks to me that they are the same pulley except for the collar bushing is used for the static pulley and not the tensioner pulley.
