Comments about CARQUEST Alternator - Remanufactured - 160 Amps:

Bought this alternator on line from Trenton NJ. location. Transaction very smooth used online coupon and picked it up the next day, after a slight wait because they were busy I brought alternator home.It took me about a hour to remove bad alternator and install new one. It worked good as new , then returned core to store for refund. Was very pleased with total transaction and installation.

Comments about CARQUEST Alternator - Remanufactured - 160 Amps:

Put it in my 2003 2500 Dodge Ram with a 5.7 in it. Took about 20mins to take the old one out and put the new one in. After putting it is my truck had no noise at all nice and quite. I knew my other one was bad after 125000 miles and the wine that was coming from it.

This was purchased to replace the original alternator on my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with Hemi. Everything matched up perfectly and I can really notice a quieter difference. Apparently, my old one was really noisy and I had just gotten used to the sound.

Comments about CARQUEST Alternator - Remanufactured - 160 Amps:

I installed this alternator as a replacement to my nearly 10 year old alternator in my Ram. My old alternator had worn bearings and I didn't realize just how much constant noise it was making under the hood (and consequently the cab as well) until I put in this new unit. The original alternator for this truck wasn't the 160 amp, but the 136 amp instead. I originally feared that this unit wasn't going to work due to the wire harness from the truck not matching up with the higher amperage alternator. However, this alternator hooked right up to the factory wire harness and bolted in smooth as butter. This is a solid unit and looked much nicer than I'd expect for a reman unit. Definitely worth the purchase, my truck is nearly silent now.

I replaced the stock 130 amp alternator with the 160 amp . I was eating up batteries for a while . My Durango is the Hemi with literally every option . Two ac units surround sound entertainment package and high powered lighting and electric power gate and tow package . All my power issues seemed to just disappear . Very happy with my choice !

Went in easy and came with all necessary nuts/bolts. Was necessary to reverse the pigtail as i just replaced an OEM Bosch unit with this one, but no big deal. Still fit just fine. Both units were made in Mexico. Upgraded to 160amp unit i/o of the OEM 136amps, same price.
Have it in for a few weeks and no issues.
would buy this again from Advance Auto Parts.

            • Q:

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi that I need a new alternator badly but I'm not sure if it's a 136a or 160a. It looks like it's the OE that came with the truck that has 189,900 miles on it. The question is if it is 136a can safely go and upgrade to the 160a with out damaging the computer and throwing codes ? Also would I have too upgrade the power wire from battery to alternator or just leave it stock?

I made no modifications to wiring. I didn't experience any codes after
installing the 160a alternator. I recommend this as a direct replacement
part. I haven't had any issues since installing.

Don't know if it's recommend or not, but what I did on my 2003 RAM 1500 with Hemi is install a 160a Alternator in place of the stock one. If I'm not mistaken it is the same amperage used in the Durangos of the same year. I have not upgraded the full line from the alternator to the battery and my setup is working correctly, but I am getting a MAP sensor code. You may want to look at the snow plow equipped RAMs of the same year as they also use 160a Alternators.
I suggest to use the proper sized alternator for your vehicle. This avoids any issues as a result of upgrading one thing and not another.

when calling the store they ask if i had a bosch or desno alternator on my truck. One is a 136 amp and other is 160 amp. Does it matter or will they both fit the truck without damaging computer or orthe electical componets.

                A:

Happy to help with that question Bob. That information will be valid to the store to find the correct alternator; the 136 amp alternator may be smaller than the 160 amp alternator and may need a shorter belt than the 160. In addition to that if the alternator is too large it may over charge your battery damaging it and if it is too small it may under charge your battery causing you to possibly have a no start situation. To find the alternator you have on your vehicle you can get in touch with your local dealership and provide them the full VIN (vehicle identification number) and they can tell you the amp alternator you have.

I'm glad to assist, Bob! You may use the higher output ToughOne Remanufactured 160 Amp Alternator (Part No. 12563) on your 2003-2006 Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 or 2004-2006 Dodge Durango with the 5.7L 345 CID HEMI V8. The plugs and mounts are the same on both alternators. The higher amperage output will not cause any electrical issues.
