I went online to be make sure I was on the right track in installing this. I found a youtube video that showed me exactly how to replace an alternator on a Ford Explorer. It was an easy bolt on and the belt was fairly easy to change since I was doing the alternator install.

2000 mountaineer, original equipment failed and replaced with advance re-man part. easy install, easy purchase, pickup, core, etc. month later re-man failed, hard to diagnose as it was passing stray ac current causing engine to act strange, strange noises, and also obd code p0340. No bearing noise and still putting out 14+volts dc. Stray ac current affected computer system, engine running extremely rough, barely running. Searched on-line, and known problem and cause of obd code p0340 is bad alternator. Ran with cable off alternator and engine ran fine. Viola! Pulled alternator out. Bench test at advance. Failed! Faulty! Warrantied and upgraded to new part paying the difference in costs. I usually have no prob with re-man parts, but for this time. Re-man from Mexico and new part from Malaysia. Advance was not a problem at all and did the right thing. I will just guess bad parts happen. Lucky diagnosis, and only drawback is the skinned knuckle releasing tension of the serpentine belt LOL.

Advance Auto made good on the guarantee over 3 years later

By

from Spring Hill, TN

Comments about CARQUEST Alternator - Remanufactured - 130 Amps:

Bought this alternator in November 2013. It worked fine for a little over three years, but went out last night. I took the part in today and had a new one in hand at no charge within 5 minutes, no hassle. Car was back up and running 30 minutes later. The lifetime guarantee alone is worth it. Save your receipt.

What is the working temperature of this product when idling? Just replaced it, the battery is recharging(was somewhat discharged) but Im concerned about 2 things...
1- it feels extremely hot to the touch
2- it seems to be making a clakety kind of noise from inside

      A:

Hi there Ernie! Happy to help with your question! The operating temperature is not available but the alternator will get very hot due to voltage being produced and it being under the engine. Be very careful not to burn yourself by the way. The alternator should be relatively quiet if you are hearing noise there may be an issue with the pulley, the belt, or the internal bearings. We suggest having a certified mechanic have a listen to determine if something is happening.
