This new Remy alternator is a direct replacement for the OEM GM. Bolt eyes, terminal studs, and connectors are all where they should be making replacement a no-fuss snap! Why buy a rebuilt alternator, where very little is truly "rebuilt" in them, when you can have a new one at a good price? Also, remember Remy is just a company spun off mother GM, just like Delphi. I've gone exclusively to using new Remy alternators and starters when in need of replacing either of these high-stress, high use electro-mechanical parts and have never been disappointed and life has been as good as, or better than, factory!

MISLEADING PRODUCT BRAND. When picked up at store was NOT a Remy Aftermarket, but a ToughOne. AAP you need to update the site to reflect the change in brand. NOT happy to spend time researching a product that was not what was available in store. Could not find 1 review of the ToughOne Brand alternator. Luckily another location had the Remy (same casting marks as the toughone) and swapped it out without hassle. THIS IS MISLEADING, update your product to reflect what you carry.

Comments about CARQUEST Alternator - New - 145 Amps:

As with most repairs you are always hoping that the part you replace is, in fact, the problem. In this case, I went through all the motions and checked the old alternator with ohm meter. Convinced I proceeded to Advance and asked the very experienced crew at the counter to give me a second opinion which they did with the computer. I asked the final question, which was, "is this a good alternator". With the online discount, pick up minutes later at Advance which is close to my home, and within 2 hours all my questions are answered when everything is resolved with my GMC. It's working fine.

  • Q:

How to get rid of whining noise of new alternator on Cadillac 6.0 Escalade
Asked on 2/20/2017 by Buck from St Charles Il.

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Happy to help, Buck! Well there are usually two reasons for a whine from alternator. The first would be if it is mechanical. If it is mechanical it usually would mean the front or rear bearing are bad. This can be determined by disconnecting the electrical part of the alternator and then running the engine. If the noise is still there and it can be determined to be coming from the alternator with a stethoscope and not one of the idler pulleys the alternator is defective and needs to be replaced. The second type of noise can be what is called a charging whine/noise. Now, if in the first test, the noise goes away with the electrical unhooked it is a charging whine not mechanical. The cause of this can be due to the alternator being required to put out maximum, or extremely high, amperage all the time. At that point a detailed analysis of why that is happening needs to be done. Is the battery defective / extremely low on charge or is the computer not controlling the charge rate correctly and if so why. Bad connections, high resistance etc. That is where a scanner has to be used in helping diagnose the system functions.

  • Q:

03 2500HD with a 6.0 and I don't know which alternator it has on it now, a 105 or 145 amp. Are these two interchangeable? If I now have a 105, is it just a simple plug-n-play bolt up to upgrade to the 145? Thanks
    Asked on 12/17/2015 by Willie

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Hi Willie, I'm glad to assist you. There is a sticker in your glove box with a series of alphanumeric codes on it. Scan over to the codes that begin with "K". The code for the 105a alternator is "K68" and the code for 145a is "KG3". Purchase the alternator accordingly.

  • Q:

I have a 100 watt amplifier and sub woofer installed do i need to up the amps on the alternator. my 2003 chevy avalanche calls for the 145 amp alternator.
Asked on 1/10/2015 by Larry from College Park, Ga.

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

I'm happy to help, Larry! A 100 watt amplifier with a subwoofer will not typically require a higher than stock output from your alternator. Your 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche's 145 amp alternator will typically about a 40% reserve after meeting your vehicle's electrical demands.

Your 100 watt system will likely only draw around 5 amps. Typically, a 145 amp alternator in a truck or SUV can handle up to a 1200 watt system. This can vary based on the other items you may have that are drawing power from your vehicle.
