  • Q:

I have a 2004 dodge intrepid se 2.7 engine with standard steering and was wondering if I can install a proportional steering rack and pinion in it? My rack and pinion is bad and have to replace it so I was wondering if I can replace it with the proportional steering.
Asked on 2/5/2015 by Jason from Greenwood, Wv

I'm happy to help, Jason! To convert your 2004 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.7L V6 with standard steering to the proportional steering, you will need more than the Cardone Remanufactured Rack and Pinion Complete Unit (Part No. 22-346). The power steering gear utilizes a solenoid that controls the return line pressure. This solenoid is controlled by the BCM, which receives its signal from the PCM.

While it's possible to do the conversion, it is up to your discretion if you would like to purchase the additional parts and possible have the PCM and/or BCM updated or replaced to work with the new rack and pinion.
