Had a shop I took my truck to 5 times to fix my car. Batteries were drained. The starter was replaced. Incredibly, no one ever checked or even looked at the mass of wires around my solenoid. I replaced the starter - it was bad - and we had power - but by this time the F250 1988 had had problems for over a year. A little web research later, I ordered this part. Hard to install - because my other one fell apart as soon as I touched it - possibly 25 years old. Had to put everything on just right. Now, for the first time in years, the truck springs to life, I have no battery drains, and it starts right up without even having to get it gas - it never did that. At only about $20, I think one of the best investments you can make.

A bad one will stop you dead.

Comments about BWD Starter Relay / Starter Solenoid:

When you know the battery is good, but turning the ignition doesn't even produce that 'click-click' sound, you probably need a new solenoid. Hint: while having somebody turn the key, give the solenoid a gentle whack with a non-metallic object. This will probably get you going without the cost and trouble of a tow truck, but remember this doesn't solve the problem. Eventually even several not-so gentle whacks won't work. Simple and cheap to replace it. Just watch where the wires were on the old one. On my Ford F-150, one of the small terminals on the new unit was not needed.

Comments about BWD Starter Relay / Starter Solenoid:

My reason for purchase is that I wrung the bolt off while re-attaching the power lead after replacing the #4 coil on my Expedition. Quick, easy, and inexpensive replacement with adequate instructions in the box (my Expedition only has three connections & this has 4. The instructions confirmed my thoughts on which one not to use.).
        Fired right up. Perfect!

Hi Bugman, I'm glad to assist you. The starter solenoid on your 2001 Ford Sport Trac should be located on the left fender just under the hood. Follow the heavy positive battery wire which is connected to the starter; starter is bolted to the bottom back of engine. The solenoid is part of the starter.

              A:

Happy to help you with your question Joni! Looking at some product applications this is predominantly a part meant for Fords. Looking deeper we found that for the "E" line the highest it will work for is 83-97, and 99 E350. The E450 started in 2003. For the diesel application with the 7.3litre engine we where able to find a solenoid Part No F492G. If you can provide us with some more specific information to your application we can research it more.

              A:

Hi Deb, I'm happy to help you! The starter motor on the 2000 Ford Explorer should be located underneath the engine, at the point where it attaches to the transmission on the passenger side. If you start at the battery, and follow the positive (+) battery cable, it will lead right to the starter. The solenoid is part of the starter.

Hi Chavez, To get more specific information on the location of this part I would recommend purchasing a Chilton or Haynes Repair Manual for your vehicle, not only will it show the location and also explain how to install, but you'll find it handy for many more projects on your vehicle. The repair manual part number is 36024.
