  • Q:

What exactly does this switch do? Does it send a signal to somehow regulate pressure or turn on a light in the dash if pressure is too high or low?

Hi Gary! A power steering pressure switch is used to send a signal to the power steering control monitor when the system exceeds its normal operating pressure. It alerts the engine to increase idling in order to prevent it from stalling, due to the increased hydraulic pressure.

It's the only hose from the power steering pump, with the electrical connection to it. The hose has a Tee built into it , with the sensor switch and wiring attached.
