I bought this EGR valve to replace the factory one on my 2001 Chevy Blazer LT. I really didn't want to spend the money, but this was the cheapest one I found for the money from any other auto parts store. It literally took 2 minutes to install. I diagnosed the old one as being no good, so I took it out, scraped the old gasket off, ordered it online and drove my wifes car to my local Advanced Auto Parts Store and installed in 2 minutes. I cleared the trouble code, started the truck and ran some errands and no codes after I installed this. Excellent product and so convenient to purchase online securely.

I bought this EGR valve for my 1999 Suburban in 8/2015. I read the reviews and was not concerned about the negative comments about this EGR valve not lasting very long, because it has a "lifetime warranty" and it only take about 5 minutes to install. In 11/2015 the EGR valve started to go bad and I got the P0404 code and my Suburban started running rough. I took it back and they gave me a new one. Everything was fine for almost two months, then I started getting the P0404 code again. I went to take it back and was told the you only get ONE replacement during the Lifetime Warranty. Well that was a suprise to me, because I didn't read that anywhere in the Warranty info on the Advance Auto web site or on my receipt. The manager listened to my story and made an exception and gave me a new EGR valve. The Suburban was running great again. Just to make sure nothing else was leading to the P0404 code I had been getting, I replaced the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, cleaned the mass air flow sensor and had the Cheverolet Dealership check everything out connecting the EGR valve and they re-flashed my Powertrain Control Module. It is currently 3/2015 and I have put about 4500 miles on the last EGR valve and the P0404 is starting to show again. The Suburban isn't running rough yet and it takes about 50 miles for the code to come on, but I have to believe that it is starting to fail. I talked to the Manager at Advance and he told me that he would do whatever I wanted (give me a new one or give me my money back). I will say that that is pretty good, considering their policy is to only give you ONE replacement during your Lifetime Warranty. I am going to get my money back on this EGR valve and buy a Delphi or AC Delco.

Comments about BWD Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve:

Had issues with car stalling when warm and starting. Had several problem the past year with a 10 year old Lacrosse
Needed 3 coils, wires, plugs and an ignition module. All needed replacement but still had sluggish acceleration and a check engine light. I thought it may be fuel injection so I took to dealer for analysis. He said the EGR valve was the most likely from the testing. The acceleration has improved and the light has to go through several cycles before it disappears. I suspect that the problem is solved. It took less than 30 minutes to install. Nuts were rusty so soak ahead of time so not to snap off and turn the project into a nightmare.

Super easy to install. Comes with a new gasket as well. Recommend cleaning orifice of built-up carbon after removing old valve prior to installing new one. I used a thin rag with my finger, and then used a Dremel rotary tool with a wire wheel attachment and inserted it into the orifice to buff the carbon build-up off the cylinder walls. VERY EFFECTIVE. Ensured the thin rag came out relatively clean and then installed new valve. Just ensure the gasket is aligned properly. Also, recheck torque on the two bolts after driving the vehicle for a couple of days.

Comments about BWD Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve:

I was very happy when I found this replacement EGR Valve at my local Advance Auto Parts location. The replacement is of extremely high quality and is identical to the defective OEM part that was removed(minus the 200K miles of built up carbon that caused the original to fail). Installation was straight forward for my model of vehicle(1998 Chevrolet Tahoe 4WD 5.7). The original was easy to remove as it is positioned at the front of the engine. Next I took a little time to clean and prepare the surface for the new gasket and EGR valve to ensure a proper seal with the new unit. Installing the new EGR valve and gasket was a little tricky, but I used a rubber band to hold the gasket in place until both mounting bolts were started then I cut the rubber band and removed it prior to torquing the bolts to factory specs. Once the installation was complete and the electrical connection was made, I used a OBD2 scan tool to remove the trouble codes caused by the faulty unit and the job was done.

With reference to this BWD EGR Valve - part# EGR1273, the EGR valve may be the possible cause of the problem on your Chevy Silverado 1500. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. A:

The symptoms of malfunctioning EGR Valve: ROUGH IDLE: An EGR valve that fails to close properly can act as a vacuum leak, causing the fuel and air mixture to become too lean, resulting in an engine that sputters and misses at idle. This can also lead to engine stalling and hesitation upon acceleration., INCREASED FUEL CONSUMPTION: When an EGR valve fails to open and close at the proper rate, at the proper time, overall engine power is reduced due to decreased combustion chamber efficiency. This results in the engine using more fuel to do the same amount of work it would normally do under normal operating conditions., OVERHEATING: EGR valve serves to reduce the temperature of the ignition process by introduction of exhaust gases into the combustion chamber. If the EGR valve fails to open, combustion temperatures increase, resulting in higher overall engine temperatures, which can lead to engine overheating., PINGING AND KNOCKING: Pinging and knocking commonly result from increased engine temperatures. These increased temperatures cause pinging and knocking by creating a condition where the fuel and air mixture within a cylinder ignites prematurely., INCREASED EMISSIONS: The EGR valve's main purpose is to aid in the reduction of noxious gases produce by the engine. It does this by lowering the temperature of the combustion process through the introduction into the combustion chamber of controlled amounts of exhaust gases. This lower temperature has the effect of reducing the amount oxides of nitrogen (NOx) produced by the engine. A faulty EGR valve will fail to properly cool the combustion process allowing these gases to increase, which can lead to an abnormally high NOx reading during emissions testing.

If your vehicle EGR valve is bad then, you can see Rough Idle, Increased Fuel Consumption, Increased Emissions and Pinging and Knocking.

The "quick and dirty" method to TESTING to see if your EGR valve is not functioning properly is to put a block-off plate over the port(s) once you've removed the valve, start the engine, and observe any changes in the way that the engine runs. An improvement will indicate a bad EGR valve, and no change will indicate that your EGR valve is likely fine. You will need to be a little creative and make your own block off plate out of a piece of steel or aluminum. If this is out of the realm of your abilities, I'd suggest taking it to a qualified mechanic to have them properly diagnose and repair your vehicle. There are other component electrical tests that can be performed as well.

Fuel pressure might be too low. Or a bad coolant sensor can trick the computer into not allowing enough fuel. Bad oxygen sensor can also cause it. Also check fuel injectors for debris. These are the major possibilities for a rough engine run.
