Q:If the crank sensor goes bad would it cause the vehicle to run rough, idle rough, spit sputter, stall, and what it does most of the time is rev high 3000rpm's+when it should be down around 1200rpm's and it also gets terible gas mileage with this occuring if you can even drive it gets like 13 or 14 mpg with that being said it doesn't do it all the time but more often than not it does
A:When a crankshaft sensor has failed or is failing, certain timing problems will arise in engine function. The engine may start normally in some cases, but will cut off after a few minutes (or seconds) of operation. More than likely the engine will be unable to start at all. Since the crankshaft sensor is responsible for engine timing, the driver may experience engine backfire or irregular rpm function, if the vehicle starts at all. I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.
