I put this in my 23 foot 5th wheel RV travel trailer. The battery works the front jacks just fine and seems to hold a charge quite well. The battery I replaced was shot, so anything is a improvement. Just to make sure, I had the tech check the status of the new battery BEFORE I left the store. He didn't mind and I KNEW when I left I had a good battery.

If you do a search for deep cycle batteries, this battery comes up. I purchased it and came home only to realize it's a marine starting battery. Now I have to go back and exchange it. This isn't the first time something has come up in a search that is wrong. That's why I'm only giving it 3 stars.

Had to return the first battery because it didn't appear to be charging. Store clerk just put it back on the shelf - someone else may have to take it back in the future. The replacement battery is doing fine. Takes and seems to hold a charge. It was less than fifty bucks with a coupon and that's a great price.

Use it to operate a trolling motor for my jonboat. It's strong enough to do that well but not so heavy it kills you to lift it.

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

No, Mark! This AutoCraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Starting Battery, Group Size 24M, 500 CCA (Part No. M24-1) is a starting battery type. The exact deep cycle battery for your application (Electric Fence) is unavailable online. However, I would suggest that you visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store to check the availability of this part.

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Happy to answer your question Mowerdoc! A deep cycle battery is actually exactly what you need. A regular car battery is not designed to handle the amp draw of a winch. A battery with high storage amps and capable of deep cycle .

  • Q:

What would be the reason to suspect this M24-1 Marine battery might need distilled water service. Don't want to pry the cap off if not necessary.

    y.
Asked on 5/9/2015 by none from Oklahoma

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

Happy to help you with your question! To find out if you need to add water would be difficult to gauge without taking off the cap. These batteries are maintenance free so you generally don't need to add water. For a deep cycle batter you would need to replace it when it can no longer hold a charge.

Answered on 5/10/2015 by Panda from AAP
  • Q:

I also purchased this battery for my back up sump pump. My battery charger says not to use on a maintenance-free battery unless it is a "Gel-filled" or "AGM" battery. I looked on the specification page, but it does not indicate if it is a "Gel-filled" or "AGM" battery. Can you tell me if it is a "Gel-filled" or "AGM" battery? Thank you.
Asked on 4/13/2015 by JLMorgan from Medina, OH

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

I'm happy to help, JLMorgan! This Autocraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Starting Battery (Part No. M24-1) is a conventional lead-acid battery. This battery is not sealed and the caps can be removed, if necessary, to add distilled water. Advance Auto Parts does carry AGM batteries under the Autocraft Platinum line, as well as the premium Optima batteries and some Autocraft PowerSports batteries.

Typically, a deep-cycle battery is the best option for use as a battery backup for a sump-pump. I suggest a battery such as AutoCraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Deep Cycle Battery (Part No. 24DC-1 or 24DC-2) or Optima Blue Top (Part No. D34M-950 or D27M).

  • Q:

Described as "maintenance free" yet the caps look as if they might be removable. Is it possible to check the electrolyte level?
Asked on 11/28/2014 by Dino from Jax, FL

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

I'm glad to assist, Dino! You are correct, the caps can be removed to check the fluid and electrolyte level. These batteries are engineered to not require maintenance from the owner, except in more extreme conditions. If you find the need to fill the battery at any time. You may fill only with distilled water (minerals in tap and bottled water will shorten your battery's life). If you fill the battery, make sure to fill no higher than the bottom of the splash barrel or vent well.

I do not see this battery available on AdvanceAutoParts.com at this time. I do see AutoCraft Marine / RV 12-Volt Starting Battery, Group Size 24M, 800 CCA (Part No. M24-3) available, which may also meet your needs.

  • Q:

what is best for long term storage of these?
can they be simply disconnected and left in boat over winter.
    Asked on 8/11/2014 by ty

    1 answer

    • CUSTOMER CARE

      A:

I'd be happy to help you with that! The best storage option would be to remove the battery and keep it in a garage or another area free from elements. If your boat does not have the battery exposed to the elements, then you can leave it there as well. The garage would be the best option so that you can check the battery condition and trickle charge it if need be.
